VIbrance The Arts: News

Musical Utopia - July 2, 2008

Once again Anchants visit Carrboro N.C. for the "Summer Reggae Jam 08" which also featured Crucial Fiya, and Dub Addis.
This performance by Anchants proved to be more dynamic than the ones I have seen. Arif's stage presence is magnetic and his lyrics are unlike any I've heard. Taking the stage last, he greeted the crowd: Bless! From there on, it was a musical utopia. Half way through the set while performing "Run Duppy" someone threw money onto the stage. I can see why this song was the first release off the Merkaba, but it's even sweeter to see and hear it live. The crowd was feeling this vibe, so much that someone else threw money up onto the stage. Anchants rocked it , they really rocked it man.

"Merkaba" - June 7, 2008

Brand new release "Merkaba" turning heads and gripping ears. Anchants bringing a warm sound and contemplative lyrics. The first single "Run Duppy" is a favorite. "Check for this one."

"Man of the hour" - May 31, 2008

After taking some time away from the stage to produce the "Serenity" album, VIbrance The Arts bursted back onto the scene in Feb. 2008 at the 7th Annual Bob Marley Birthday Bash in Carrboro, N.C. Occupying the stage only briefly, Anchants' vocalist, Arif, was able to command the attention of all in attendance almost the moment he appeared. Not only was his energy different, it was original - original music, original lyrics. Performing "Word Sound" from the album, "Merkaba", the opening lines..."Red, white and blue and their 50 stars are the satellites watching over you", evoked an immediate response from the crowd. As Anchants continued it became evident that this was no fly by night sound, it was the real thing. Well crafted lyrics coupled with the music of heavy bass and the distintive one drop, created the perfect atmosphere for a devine musical experience. To close, the crowd was invited to participate and did so openly. Incorporating the names of the other bands into his closing lines displayed Arif's spontaneity. Anchants exited with a roar of appreciation from both the crowd and fellow musicians. I could remember hearing comments like, "finally something different", "what a breath of fresh air", "that was the best thing all night", he was even called "man of the hour".
